After 12 long weeks, Kyle and I attended our last birthing class this morning. It was big commitment to go every Sunday for the past three months, but we learned so much that hopefully will come in very handy during our labor and delivery. We decided to take the Bradley courses because I am hoping to have an unmediated, uncomplicated, natural childbirth experience. My main goals are to avoid an epidural, a c-section and to have a healthy baby, of course. My doctor recommended hypnobirthing or Bradley classes in preparation for a medication free delivery. The Bradley method's focus is a healthy pregnancy that leads to a healthy delivery. It encourages certain exercises and a certain diet during pregnancy in order to avoid complications during delivery. Its main focus during labor and delivery is relaxation in order to let your body take its natural course. I think maybe I've lived in Austin too long and the "hippiness" is rubbing off on me:)
The Bradley method is also referred to as Husband-Coached Childbirth. It took Kyle a little bit to warm up to the idea of being so involved in my labor and delivery, but in the end I think he actually enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Please pray for us and our desire to have a natural childbirth. I am trying to keep an open mind since I've never experienced labor pain before. I guess I'll find out what it feels like before too long:)
Yay! I am so interested in a natural birth too! I will be praying for you!! I can't wait to hear how it goes and meet the baby:)
