Sewing, a Snake and Sweet Potatoes!

I finished my first sewing project yesterday, a pillow case.  It's something that a 10 year old could have made at summer camp, but it was good practice.  The seams are definitely not straight and I still have a lot to learn, but my main goal was to not get frustrated (which was pretty easy since I'm not much of a perfectionist, and it's just a pillow case).  I don't think Mary Grace reads this blog, so I'm posting a picture.  I'm giving it to her for her birthday, which is today.  Happy 14th Birthday, Mary Grace!

Yesterday, this was waiting for Harper and I when we got home from buying some sewing supplies....

One of my college professors said it is either a rat snake or a milk snake, which are both harmless, but still GROSS!  Once again, I have a sweet neighbor, who came over and tried to take care of it.  But when he got too close, the thing scurried off into a hole in the foundation of our house!  I'm not sure what to do about it now.  Evidently, not many people will come take care of snake when you're not really sure what kind it is or where it is, especially after hours. 

The snake might not bite, but this little one does....

Harper has been doing really well with rice cereal now, so we tried sweet potatoes last night.  I think she liked them!  I don't think I'll ever figure out how to feed her without making a huge mess.  I'm pretty sure I got more sweet potatoes on myself today than she did.  I might need to wear a bib next time too:)
